Hi, I’m Lucy.

I am a registered psychotherapist and I help people develop new skills to cope, develop meaningful change and enhance the sense of direction in their lives through counselling and psychotherapy.

Welcome to my website! I’m Lucy Thornby, a qualified psychotherapist with a First-Class BSc (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy, accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). You can verify my registration with the BACP here.

I have experience working with both adults and teenagers, having supported clients through therapeutic agencies such as Choose Therapy and London Young Counselling. Before becoming a therapist in 2019, I spent nearly a decade in education, working with neurodivergent individuals and those learning English as an additional language. This deepened my understanding of diverse needs and continues to shape my compassionate, inclusive approach.

My training spans several therapeutic approaches - psychodynamic, person-centred, cognitive-behavioural (CBT) and existential therapies. As an integrative therapist, I tailor sessions to your unique needs, offering a flexible and personalised space where you feel truly heard and understood.

I believe therapy works best when it’s built on genuine connection and trust. Together, we can explore how past experiences may be shaping your present, while also equipping you with practical tools to navigate life’s challenges.

I work with clients both in person (in central London) and remotely via video or phone. If you’d like to get to know me a little more, feel free to explore my blog or connect with me on Instagram.

About Me

My Approach

Relationships and Wellbeing

Our relationships - with ourselves, loved ones, and the world around us - are central to our wellbeing. Challenges in these relationships may be deep-rooted or arise during times of change, shaping how we understand ourselves, connect with others, and cope with life’s demands.

Understanding leads to Healing

People often seek therapy when they feel overwhelmed, anxious or stuck, driven by experiences that invoke burnout, grief, or a longing for clarity. Inner conflict can show up in many ways, such as unhealthy coping mechanisms, feelings of fear or inadequacy, struggles with trust, perfectionism or a harsh inner critic. When our relationship with ourselves becomes strained, it impacts our choices, behaviours, and how we connect with others.

My Therapeutic Approach

I draw upon a range of therapeutic strategies to help you explore your beliefs, behaviours and underlying motivations. Together, we’ll deepen your self-awareness, develop practical coping skills, and nurture healthier emotional connections, all aimed at enhancing your sense of wellbeing, resilience, and agency in life.

Fees

In Person Therapy

I have afternoon, evening, and weekend availability in the welcoming environment of my therapy room in Fitzrovia/Marylebone, providing a comfortable and calm setting for sessions. I’m located at the Landmark Building, 4 Devonshire, London W1W 5DT.

£70

Walking Therapy

Some people find that combining movement with therapy, alongside a therapist rather than sitting face-to-face, helps them engage in the process. I offer afternoon or weekend walking therapy sessions in the natural surroundings of London’s Hyde Park or Regents Park.

£65

Online Therapy

Sometimes people prefer to engage in sessions from their own environment. Remote therapy can also fit more easily into your schedule during the day or evening. I offer sessions via video or phone call at a lower rate than my face-to-face services due to lower hosting costs.

£55

Concession Rates

I passionately believe that therapy should be accessible, but my hands are somewhat tied by the costs involved in providing an ethical service. I offer a limited number of off-peak online session times at a reduced rate. Please contact me for availability.

£45

Please note: I am currently only accepting insurance payments through Aviva.
